Introduction

As Christians, we face special challenges: we desire to remain true to the Word of God, yet find that traditional methods of child training often do not yield the fruit normally expected.

Membership is by approval only, to maintain the privacy of its members and create a safe environment for Christian parents to discuss their experiences with their ADD/ADHD children.

Before asking for membership, please read each list description below and make sure you can adhere to the rules and requirements.

Description

The purpose of the Christian ADHD Parenting Lists is to encourage one another as we face the many challenges of raising these special children, providing emotional and spiritual support as brothers and sisters in Christ. An integral part of the Lists is the Prayer & Fasting. We pray for one another as needs and challenges arise in our lives.

The Christian ADHD Parenting Lists have been divided into two groups because of list email volume; you may subscribe to both of the lists if you so choose. If you need to limit your email volume, then it might be best to limit yourself to the one list that best fits your needs according to the age of your ADHD child(ren).

Topics discussed include (but definitely are not limited to):

  • Diagnosis
  • Co-existing conditions
  • Medications
  • Nutritional supplements
  • Diets
  • School choices and methods
  • Discipline
  • Chores
  • Behavior
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Parenting problems and solutions
  • Family difficulties
  • Siblings
  • ADHD resources
  • Prayer and Scriptures for encouragement

Membership Requirements/List Rules/Netiquette

  1. Born Again Christian: If you are born again, you have decided to follow Jesus, and have accepted His free gift of salvation. You have asked God to forgive you for your sins. This list is for those of you who have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; this is evidenced by a confession of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life and a walk that reflects this relationship. If you do not feel you can honestly declare this before God and the other list members, you might feel more comfortable with a different e-mail list. If you are not sure, please feel free to email us, and we will be glad to discuss salvation with you.. For more information on what it means to be a "Christian", please visit Words We All Should Know.
  2. ADHD: This list is for those who have ADHD or a spouse with ADHD. Professional diagnosis is not required -- many are undiagnosed but meet the criteria for ADHD diagnosis.
  3. Introduction Required: You need to send in an introduction (see below). This will be posted to the List when your membership is approved.
  4. ***AOL users: By joining this list, you agree not to report any emails from this list as SPAM to AOL.
  5. Confidentiality: All messages that go through the list are confidential and not to be shared with another individual except spouses. If you are using a work computer for list emails, delete all messages after reading. Consider all list messages copyrighted and the property of their authors.
  6. Conflict Resolution: Conflict resolution takes place offlist. Contact the List Moderator or List Owner if you have a conflict with another list member or a concern about another list member's posts to the list. Do not post any private messages you receive to the list.
  7. No harsh posts or flaming: You must be mature enough to discuss all the aspects of ADHD, life challenges, spiritual topics, and treatments without condemning others for their choices.
  8. No Selling: You may not join this list to sell anything. As Christians, we are not to take advantage of others when they are vulnerable. NO SELLING or business messages of any kind!
  9. Email Address: You must have your own e-mail address. You may not subscribe using a friend's, co-worker's, or business' (unless it is a dedicated e-mail address--yours alone) e-mail address. Organized, on time and neat can seem like foreign words to an ADHD adult. If your life is a whirlwind, let us help you learn new coping skills.

This article explores the differences between anxiety, worry, Anxiety Disorder and Panic Disorder. Written with the Christian skeptic in mind.

Blinks: A Phenomenon of Distractibility in Attention Deficit Disorder by by James Reisinger, MBA, CLU, CFP, ADD. Where do ADDers go when they space out and why can't they just say, "I'll think about that later?" I offer an answer to this question and a glimpse inside the head of a person with ADD.
