Lesson 6: Comfort from the Lord, Not FoodMany of us use food as a comfort when we experience stress, pain, hurt, anger, rejection and a myriad of other negative feelings. But what does the Lord say should be our source of comfort? During this week, try to read one of the scriptures below each day and then wait before God to see how He would make these scriptures personal to you.
Isa. 66:13 I have already referred to the book, The Search for Peace: Release from the Torments of Toxic Unforgiveness by McGee and Sapaugh. The following prayers are from page 168 and 169 of that book:
"Father, please father me like a child. Let me totally rest
in you. Father, you are my total source of comfort. When my
heart breaks, you desire to comfort me. Father, let me
remember those times I have allowed you to comfort me." This prayer is followed by a similar prayer where we ask the Lord to show us times when we didn't go to him for comfort which we can also make a list of. And then a short prayer asking God to forgive us for not turning to Him.
