Lesson 2: You need a plan
My Personal Plan Worksheet -
Companion worksheet to this lesson.
First Things First
-
What is your target weight? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal
to you the right target weight. Be careful not to compare
yourself to others, use unreasonable weight charts or base
your goal on how much you weighed in high school.
-
Why do you want to weigh this amount? Be brutally honest.
List every motive you can discover.
-
Make a list of every bad eating habit you have that will
keep you from achieving this goal. Again, be honest.
-
Make a Plan: You need to seek the Lord is how He would have
you go about reaching our target weight. You need to have a
plan -- be it counting calories, following a food plan,
letting the Lord teach us about true hunger and how to stop
eating when no longer hungry (this is a major emphasis of
Weigh Down), or some other variation of the above. Be very
detailed about what plan you are going to follow. You may
want to check some books out from the library and read them
before deciding which plan to follow.
-
Make a list of the situations where you find yourself
overeating (i.e., family gatherings, out shopping [fast
food, restaurants], watching TV, snacking while reading).
Now ask the Lord to give you a plan BEFORE you find yourself
in any of these situations. Then obey the voice of the Holy
Spirit each time you are in these situations. Follow your
plan!
